No, British lump wood charcoal lights easily and once the flames are reduced, ready to barbecue. It differs from imported charcoal as it is much lighter and doesnt need the same amount of draw. It can take a while to adjust how to use but we find customers prefer it as they can spend more time enjoying the BBQ and company
Our charcoal lights easily and gets up to temperature quickly as opposed to coke which needs the fan on continuously. Customers use a combination (start the forge up with charcoal and add the coke and when taking a break, add charcoal for a few minutes and then turn off the fan. Normally the charcoal is ready when the smith returns to the forge
Having trees at different heights/ stages of growth increases wildlife diversity for insects, birds and mammals as well as woodland plants and flowers
We practice low coppice (close to the ground) and high coppice (pollard or above animal browsing height)
