The Charcoal Process

Wood is collected locally

Step  1

Our wood is sourced and seasoned locally

Logs loaded for storage

Step 2

The logs are cut to size and moved to covered storage within the woodland.

Logs are seasoned for 1 - 3 years

Logs loaded to be converted to charcoal

Step 3

The kiln is prepared and logs are loaded into barrels

Temperature reached for best quality charcoal over 600 degree centigrade

Step 4

A barrel is loaded into the retort and cooks for 2-4 hours until 600 degrees centigrade is reached and the wood gasses reduce

Charcoal cooled and ready to be graded

Step 5

The barrel is removed from the kiln and stored in a sand bed and left for 24 hours to cool before it is opened to check all the wood is converted to charcoal

Grades of charcoal available

Step 6

The charcoal is graded into the different size mesh to guarantee the perfect size for each product and using the cyclone for a second time to make sure it is as dust free as possible

The whole process is local and sustainable which makes each piece of our charcoal all natural
